We will pick you up from the airport and bring you in an 1,5-hour drive to Sutopia. Sutopia resort is located in Meerzorg, Commewijne. This is close to the capital of Suriname, Paramaribo.
You will get an apartment with a double bed, air conditioning, electricity, running (hot) water, private bathroom, WiFi, swimming pool.
You will spend your first two nights at Sutopia. It's time to acclimatize!
Surrounded by indigenous plants and trees, Sutopia is the place to relax and unwind.
On day 2 and 3 during the day, there will be a photo cursus by Marcel van Berkel.
On day 2 we will go to Peperpot park in the morning to walk around and spot some wildlife!
Peperpot Nature Park is close to Sutopia Resort. ‘Peperpot’ consists of several old plantations merged to a Nature Park and reclaimed by mother nature. It consists of secondary forest with a variety of fruiting trees, dense vegetation, and many waterways. About 40% of the countries’ bird species have been observed here! The density of monkeys, birds, reptiles, and amphibians is astonishing. We can find many endemics, like the blood-coloured woodpecker, arrowhead piculet but also species such as Agami Heron. Close encounters with sloths, prehensile porcupines, squirrel monkeys and capuchin monkeys.
A taxi will pick you up at 07:30 to bring you to Parmaribo. At 8 O'clock we will start the City tour at Torarica Hotel.
In this tour you get to know Paramaribo on this city tour that takes you around the capital of Suriname. Learn about the Dutch colonial architecture of the city center's wooden buildings and other historical sites.
The tour ends at 12 O'clock. A taxi will then bring you back to Sutopia.
Only through us, you can enter Peperpot Nature Park after opening hours.
After sunset, all wildlife awakens! We gather at 18:30 near the entrance of Peperpot Nature Park. Our experienced and specialized wildlife guide will navigate you through the park. We will share our knowledge about the nocturnal wildlife of the area! We recommend wearing boots, as the paths will get muddy during rainy season. If you don’t have boots, you can borrow some through us, let us know if you need some!
Big Pan, meaning Great Lake, is an area formed of creeks, mangroves, wet and dry swamps. Many bird species live in this area, the most famous of which is the Scarlet Ibis. In addition to birds, the area is also rich in fish and reptiles.
At Bigi Pan you will spend the night in a lodge on the water. There are three lodges available in Bigi Pan.
You will stay at Akira overwater resort. In the Akira lodge you have your own lodge with a private bedroom, balcony and bathroom. There is also 24/7 electricity available in your room.
After breakfast at Sutopia you will be picked up by a taxi at Sutopia and head to Nickerie, making some sightseeing stops along the way. Upon arrival in Nickerie, you will be dropped off at the pier of the lodge where you will stay at Bigi Pan.
A boat from the resort will pick you up at the pier and take you to the resort in just a short one-hour ride!
You will have lunch and dinner at Akira.
Step into a boat and let yourself be taken on an unforgettable journey of discovery through Bigi Pan. While the guide passionately shares stories about the hidden treasures of this area, you will spot caimans, reptiles, and rare birds.

After lunch at Akira the boat will take you back to the Pier in Nickerie.
After coming back from Bigi Pan we will spend two nights at Sutopia.
On day 7, there will be a photo cursus by Marcel van Berkel.
You will be picked up by taxi at Sutopia around 15:30. The taxi will take you to the pier of Nieuw Amsterdam, which is about a 45-minute drive away. From Nieuw Amsterdam, you will board a boat with your guide to explore the river.
Near Paramaribo, the Commewijne River and the Suriname River converge, flowing into the Atlantic Ocean. As we sail across the river, keep an eye out for the playful Guyana river dolphins! The riverbanks are lined with mangroves, providing a habitat for various birds, including the striking scarlet ibis. This trip also includes a visit to one of the plantations along the Commewijne River.
The Fredberg is a unique area where many animal species occur. It is about a 4-hour drive south of Paramaribo. This area is rich in different species of flora and fauna. The most famous animals are the Spidermonkeys, the Cock of the Rock and the Bushmaster. Of course, there are many more animals to see!
A taxi will first pick you up to bring you to one of Fredberg's pick up locations.
At the pick up location you will be picked up by the tourbus of Fredberg. This tourbus will bring you to Fredberg basecamp.
Once arrived at Basecamp we will relax, explore the area and have lunch.
In the afternoon we leave for the top of the mountain. This walk takes about 3 to 4 hours and on the way the guide will tell you everything about the area and hopefully we will spot some animals too!
Once on top of the mountain we can enjoy a beautiful sunset. From the top we may see monkeys, macaws and other birds flying by.

Lunch and dinner will be served by Fredberg today.
At the top there is a hammock camp (with hammocks) where we stay the night.
Waking up in the morning between howler monkeys and a beautiful view with sunrise, while enjoying a cup of tea or coffee.
After breakfast we will walk downhill to the base camp and on the way, we will of course look for beautiful animals and plants! Around noon we arrive at the base camp where we will have lunch.
In the afternoon there is time to swim in the river, enjoy the surroundings and relax!
In the evening, after dinner, we go for a night walk! In the dark there are other animals active than during the day; snakes, frogs, tarantulas and other nocturnal animals awaken. During the night walk, the guide will also tell you all about it.

After breakfast at 09:30 we will pack our bags and leave this beautiful place again.
First we drive to Atjoni. This is the village where the road ends and all traffic moves to the Suriname river by boats. A traditional Korjaal boat will bring you to the next adventure.
Knini Paati River Resort is a relaxation spot located in the Sipaliwini district.
It is an island made up of two parts and lies in the middle of the Ferulasi Sula. The manager and host of the resort is Nelson Tiapoe, a direct descendant of the maroons who escaped from plantations and founded the village of Knini Paati.
It is currently the only resort in the higher-end segment entirely owned by local residents. In this beautiful resort with its comfortable lodges, you can enjoy flora & fauna, experience local culture, or relax in the refreshing rapids.

During this boat trip, we enjoy breathtaking nature and see various Maroon villages.
There will be a warm meal ready for you when you arrive.
Dinner will also be provided at Knini Paati.
Relax on the wonderful beds, enjoying the sound of the flowing river and the view of the river through the glass sliding doors or simply from your hammock on the balcony.
The resort features spacious, comfortable lodges with a wide view of the river and the rapids.
This day is all about experiencing and gathering impressions. Breakfast is ready at 08:00 AM, and at 09:00 AM, you depart for your first excursion. This lasts a few hours, so you will be back on the island in time to enjoy lunch. Afterward, you have some free time to relax with a good book or take a siesta. At 04:00 PM, it's time for the next excursion, which also lasts a few hours. You'll return in time to freshen up for dinner at 07:00 PM, after which you can prepare for the third excursion: spotting caimans and the nighttime boat trip. For larger groups, there will be a dance workshop from the local group Pasensi Uma on a second evening.

On the third day of your stay, the focus is once again on relaxation. Breakfast is ready from 8:00 AM, and afterward, you can enjoy your last hours on the island. Relax in the hammock on your lodge balcony or take a final swim in the Sula before heading back to Sutopia. At 11:00 AM, it's time to check out, after which you can enjoy a delicious lunch at 11:30 AM. At 12:00 PM, your journey back to Atjoni begins, where our driver will pick you up.
With a korjaal boat you go back to the village Atjoni.

Feel like coming home after an adventurous trip in the jungle. Drink a local beer in the hammock, overlooking the Suriname river, enjoy a specially prepared Suriname meal while sharing the adventures of your day with others.
After coming back from the interior of Suriname we will spend three nights at Sutopia. These days there is plenty of time to prepare and review the photo's.
These days all your meals will be provided at Sutopia.
On day 15 (March 6th), the main route for this trip ends. For those who do not join the Kabalebo extension, they will fly back today.

A taxi will bring you from Sutopia to the airport Zorg & hoop.
Departure at 11:00 from local airport Zorg & Hoop in Paramaribo to the airstrip at Kabalebo, approximately 1 hour by airplane, west of Paramaribo.
During your stay you will stay at the main lodge. The Main Lodge was the first structure to be built when the resort was conceived and offers ten (10) standard double rooms that each have private bathrooms with shower, and hot and cold running water. The rooms have a fan or air-conditioning. It has a fantastic and spacious veranda where you can enjoy a stunning sunrise and sunset!

After check-in, lunch is served at the lodge.
After lunch, you will have an introduction walk through the forest on one of the trails: The Beech craft trail, the trail to the BWKW rapids, or a trail from the feet of the Misty Mountain to the Sand Creek. These trails are in combination with a boat trip in a dugout canoe.
After the hike, you will have the opportunity to relax in the river. In the afternoon, we will drift back to the lodge and while drifting back you can enjoy the wonderful nature surrounding you.
In the evening dinner will be served, and you will be able to enjoy one of the delicious Surinamese courses that the cook/chef has prepared for you.
After dinner, you can enjoy the scenery on the spacious veranda or relax in your hammock.
In the evening the manager will provide you with information about your tour for the next day.
Activities will be decided on day 1 according to the group their wishes.
You will start your last day with a breakfast after which you will go kayaking.
We will make our way upstream to the Krong Soela by dugout canoe. When you arrived at Krong Soela you will step in a kayak and paddle your way back to the main lodge. While kayaking, you can enjoy nature and the wildlife around you.
A taxi will bring you back to Sutopia
You will spend your last two nights at Sutopia again.
These days there is plenty of time to prepare and review the photo's.
We will bring you back to the airport. On this drive, we will go through the savanna, so we can see the burrowing owl.

Entry Fee
As of 1 July 2022, visitors to Suriname no longer require a visa. Instead, tourists must pay an Entry Fee of €58 (€50 entry fee and €8 administrative costs). This payment must be made at least 24 hours before departure to Suriname, and you are required to print the confirmation document and bring a hard copy with you.

ICF (Immigration Customs Form)
From 15 January 2025, the Immigration Customs Form (ICF) is mandatory for all passengers travelling to and from Suriname. Before completing the form, ensure you have purchased the Entry Fee.
Until 15 January, paper forms were provided on the plane for submission to customs upon arrival in Suriname. This process has now been fully digitalised.
You can fill out the form online starting 3 days prior to your arrival in Suriname.
Yellow fever
A yellow fever vaccination is mandatory if you have been in a yellow fever-endemic country within 7 days prior to your visit.
Recommended vaccinations
It is advised to have DTP (Diphtheria, Tetanus, and Polio) and Hepatitis vaccinations before travelling to Suriname.
The currency of Suriname is the Surinamese Dollar (SRD), but USD and Euros are also widely accepted. Foreign currency can be exchanged at exchange offices (cambio’s), which is highly recommended!
When traveling to the interior, it is essential to have SRD, as other currencies are generally not accepted.
Keep in mind that many ATMs may not function or could be out of cash, so ensure you bring enough cash with you. Additionally, you cannot pay by card at stores or restaurants using a foreign card.
