Amatopo Rainforest Retreat

Hidden in the jungle in the southwest of Suriname lies the Amatopo Rainforest Retreat. This retreat is close to the village; Amatopo, where a small group of Amerindians from the Trio group are living. This place is surrounded by untouched and pristine nature. This is one of the hot spots for nature lovers, were flora and fauna can be experienced in a peaceful atmosphere. From Amatopo we can go on several adventures in order to do some birdwatching, hike jungle trails, step on the boat on the Courantyne River bordering on Guyana.

Flight to Amatopo

This trip begins with a domestic flight from Zorg en Hoop Airport near Paramaribo, and takes approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes. Once on board, enjoy a scenic take-off with a view over Paramaribo, the Suriname River, and the iconic Wijdenbosch Bridge. Soar over lush tropical rainforest and skimming the dramatic contours of the Bakhuis Mountains. As we approach Amatopo, we fly over the Corantijn River and pass the lodge and nearby village before making our descent on the airstrip.

Amatopo Rainforest Retreat offers a variety of comfortable and luxurious accommodations. You can choose one of the following 5 accommodations:

Main Lodge The Main Lodge offers 2 master rooms, each with two kingsize beds, private river-view veranda with hammocks, sofa and table, mini bar, safe, air-conditioning, fan, TV, hot & cold water, spacious closets, and a private bathroom with toilet. Number of people per room: 2 – 4 Price per person: (based on 2 persons)

Economy Rooms Located near the Main Lodge, the 3 Economy Rooms each include one queen-size bed, air-conditioning, a safe, and a wardrobe. Number of people per room: 1 – 2 Price per person: (based on 2 persons)

Hillside Combi Suites These two sets of 2 master rooms can be connected with each other, making them ideal for families or couples with children. Each suite includes a river-view veranda with hammock, air-conditioning, fan, mini bar, safe, ample storage, private bathroom and toilet, and space for an extra bed. Number of people per room: 2 – 3 Price per person: (based on 2 persons)

Super Luxe Jungle Cabanas Two private jungle cabanas located 100m from the Main Lodge, built 4 meters above ground for full privacy. Each includes a king-size bed (extra bed possible), mini kitchen, coffee machine, dining table, mini bar, air-conditioning, fan, closet, safe, private bathroom and toilet, and a private pool on the veranda. An intercom connects you directly to the lodge. Number of people per room: 2 – 3 Price per person: (based on 2 persons)

Jungle Adventure Camp This exclusive mobile jungle camp experience is available only on request for 3 to 6 guests. Sleep in field tents or jungle tents with hammocks or cots at unique, remote locations along the river. Includes boat transport, all meals, and a mobile kitchen where fresh food is prepared on-site. Number of people: 3 – 6 Price per person: (based on group rate)

Activity

From the lodges, there are starting points for several activities including; boat trips to waterfalls and rapids. Jungle hikes in dry season only. River tours at dawn or dusk with chances to spot giant otters, wild dogs, jaguars, macaws, and Gonini. Forest walks to discover flora and fauna. Solo or tandem kayaking. Catch & release fishing trips. River swimming with mandatory life jackets & optional jungle night trip

After breakfast on day 2, we will take a guided hike through pristine rainforest to the Lucie River. At the river you can relax, enjoy lunch, and explore. Return by boat via a scenic route through the Lucie Delta.

After the trip in the evening you will enjoy a buffet dinner at the lodge.

Day 3

Activity

On day three you have the option to do a sunrise boat ride followed by breakfast. There will also be a morning walk to the nearby Trio village, guided by locals. Learn about the culture, history, and crafts. Here you can support local artisans. In the afternoon you are free to choose your own activity. After dinner we will go on night boat trip to spot nocturnal wildlife.

Enjoy an evening dinner when you come back in the afternoon. Bar opens early.

Day 4

On day 4 enjoy a morning boat trip to Raaf Olo, known for macaws and rapids. A day of waterfalls, swimming, hiking, and riverside relaxation at our camp. Enjoy a scenic boat ride back to the resort as the sun sets behind you.

Today we will leave the beautiful Amatopo Rainforest Retreat, where we have enjoyed nature and adventure, and we will bring you back by domestic flight to Paramaribo

Today, enjoy breakfast before heading to do your last activity

Activity

On the last day we will go kayaking together. You will be taken upstream by a tugboat and then you will float downstream in complete silence until you return to the resort. If you can't get enough of it, you can continue paddling quietly in front of the resort and for real kayakers there is of course also the option of trying to get up against the rapids. You can continue sailing until the check-out period arrives.

After checking out, we will take you and your luggage to the airstrip where the plane is waiting for you to take you back to the Zorg en Hoop airport.
